Robert Downey Jr. is returning to Marvel, but not as Iron Man. He will take up the role of Doctor Doom, the Multiverse Saga’s major villain, replacing Kang. The forthcoming Avengers film was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but has recently been renamed Avengers: Doomsday. Now that the official cast of Avengers Doomsday has been revealed, let us take a look at all of the confirmed cast members, as well as some suspected appearances in the film.
All Confirmed Avengers Doomsday Cast Members
1. Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom
Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday was one of the biggest surprises of the year, and while most fans are excited to see him as one of Marvel’s most powerful villains, some fans are skeptical of the casting, believing it will tarnish Tony Stark’s legacy.
As of now, it is unclear how Marvel can pull this off, but the prevailing assumption is that we will see a version of Tony Stark as Doctor Doom, or that RDJ will portray a separate character unrelated to Tony Stark. Now, only time will tell what occurs.
2. Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards
The principal character, Reed Richards, has appeared in numerous adaptations, with different actors playing him. However, the Fantastic Four are now part of the MCU chronology, and Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four 2025. Kevin Feige announced at SDCC 2024 that The Fantastic Four will feature in Avengers 5, which makes sense given that Doctor Doom has long been the family’s arch-nemesis in comic books. Following this, with the official cast announcement, their appearance has been confirmed once more.
3. Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm
Since it has been established that the Fantastic Four’s lead cast would feature in Avengers: Doomsday, it is unknown whether Vanessa Kirby will appear as Sue Storm or The Invisible Woman. However, it has officially been confirmed that she will appear in the film via an X post on the official Avengers account. Jessica Alba and Kate Mara previously played roles in the franchise’s 2005 and 2015 adaptations, respectively.
4. Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Benjamin Grimm
Ebon Miss-Bachrach will play Benjamin Grimm, also known as the Thing. He is the Fantastic Four’s main source of strength. Previously, Jamie Bell played Grimm in the 2015 rendition of The Fantastic Four, and Ben Grimm initially appeared in 2005, played by Michael Chiklis.
5. Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm
Arguably, Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, is the most popular member of the Fantastic Four. Before Joseph Quinn was cast as the character, Chris Evans played Johnny Storm in the original Fantastic Four film, and he returned as the Human Torch for a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine, reigniting the character’s fans. Now all that remains to be seen is whether Joseph Quinn can live up to Chris Evans’ legend.
6. Chris Hemsworth as Thor
After Thor: Love and Thunder, it was uncertain if Chris Hemsworth would ever return in the role of the Norse God, but Deadpool and Wolverine gave us a hint that he is not done with the role yet. In the movie, there is a scene where Deadpool sees a screen where Thor is crying over Deadpool, who appears to be dying. To this, Mister Paradox says that this happens in the distant future, and Deadpool was not supposed to see it.
7. Anthony Mackie as Captain America
After Falcon and The Winter Soldier, we knew Sam Wilson would eventually become Captain America. Now, in 2025, Captain America: Brave New World has officially made him Captain America, and if the world is threatened by a threat like Doctor Doom, how can Cap simply stand by and watch it happen? So Anthony Mackie’s confirmation to participate in Avengers: Doomsday seemed almost inevitable.
8. Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man
Scott Lang, also known as Ant-Man, is one of the few remaining Avengers. We last saw his adventures in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he and his entire family stood up to Kang the Conqueror and prevailed. Despite its poor performance, the film offered us a glimpse of how dangerous Kang could have become. Now that the villain has left the MCU, everything we saw in Ant-Man Quantum has become somewhat irrelevant. Despite not being officially confirmed, it is widely assumed that he will join the new Avengers team in their fight against Doctor Doom.
9. Channing Tatum as Gambit
Initially, we had no idea what had happened to Gambit after Deadpool and Wolverine safely departed The Void. However, after the movie had been in cinemas for a few days, a clip was released showing Gambit being rescued from The Void by the TVA. So the current theory is that he has been transported back to his original timeline.
However, now that Channing Tatum is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday cast, TVA might call upon him when Doctor Doom threatens the multiverse.
10. James Marsden as Cyclops
With the cast of Avengers: Doomsday revealed, it’s confirmed that James Marsden will finally return as Cyclops. His return was highly anticipated in Deadpool and Wolverine, but to our disappointment, he was nowhere to be seen. James has always been open with his willingness to take up the role of the much beloved X-Man, and Kevin Feige seems to have finally made the call James has been waiting for all along.
